No job is too big or small and we cover all areas of the UK. We have bases in both St Albans in the South of England and in Manchester in the North. Proplas was recently called to replace the roof over a small bay window in the Greater Manchester suburb of Altrincham. As you can see, the original felt was in a bad state and had definitely come to the end of it’s life span. The job entailed stripping the old felt and boards. The new roof was fitted by Proplas with a slight decline to the far side where rain water will fall into the gutter. As you will agree, the new roof looks far superior to the...

May 2016, we have just completed a replacement roof in Winchmore Hill, Enfield, North London. The clients had an old felt roof which was failing and unsightly and decided to replace it with fibreglass as they wanted a long lasting solution. First, we fully stripped the old roof and installed new insulation at the clients request. New OSB3 boards went over the top and we fibreglassed and topcoated using our premier system Scott Bader Premier Crystic Roof. Particular attention was paid to sealing and waterproofing around the existing pipes which protrude from the wall as these entry points can be prone to leaks if not sealed thoroughly and correctly (see photo detail). We are sure you will agree that the new...

At Proplas we work on both domestic and commercial roofs. This recent project was a new- build medical centre in Essex. It was architect designed with steps to manage water run off and two feature sky lights. The client wanted top spec and went for our recommended Scott Bader Crystic Premier fibreglass roofing system. The product comes with a Scott Bader 25 year guarantee for extra peace of mind. Phil at Proplas is a Scott Bader trained and certified installer. As you can see, the roof looks great aesthetically and the GRP fibreglass has provided a seamless and waterproof surface which will endure for many years and will require little maintenance, maybe a wash with soapy water from time to...

Here are photos of our latest project, the replacement of a leaking felt roof in Elstree, North London. Photo 1: As you can see from the first photo (below, left) water was pooling on the old felt roof and the water was seeping under the seams and around the roof lights. Photo 2: We stripped off the old roof surface completely exposing the insulation and retaining the existing roof lights. Photo 3: The client required a new layer of insulation which we provided. The new roof will be very slightly higher at the edge nearest the wall and we do this using special furring strips under the boards. This means that water will run off to the gutter rather than...

Just before Easter we replaced an old felt roof for a customer in Elstree, just outside of London. March is traditionally rainy but the weather was good, so we were able to go ahead quickly. Here is the client’s positive testimonial. “Thoroughly professional and highly recommended – thanks Phil Mooney. I was slightly skeptical at the speed in which Phil committed to start the job after our initial conversation and site visit. Not only did Phil arrive on time, he put in a full days work without the usual hundreds of cups of tea some contractors expect. Roof was fibreglass and water tight within the day and finished on a bank holiday without a quibble. Extremely happy with the result.”...

We have just completed a fibreglass flat roofing job in London’s Swiss Cottage (near Camden). The space was tight and the client had requested two skylights. There were pipes, bends and lots of up-stands to contend with. Due to it’s complexity, the job took a little longer than a plain flat roof but we were able to provide a watertight job for the client in this difficult and confined space. These photos show the versatility of fibreglass as a flat roof solution. No seams or joins where water can get through and a tidy finish ready for the windows to be fitted by the builder. It is rare that a job is too difficult, big or small for us here...

We recently replaced an old roof for a customer in Worsley near Manchester. Proplas has bases in both the North and the South of England and we cover most areas. The client was keen to preserve the Wisteria which has been established over many years. This was no problem for us and we received a lovely review. “Thank you Phil. From the moment you visited, to view the job and provide a quote, you gave me confidence in your excellent business practices. Whilst I knew it was going to be difficult to lay a new GRP flat roof, due to my wrought ironwork surround entwined with a long established wisteria, this didn’t concern you. You spent the time and care to...

Another satisfied customer, in Welwyn, Hertfordshire on this occasion. This roof terrace has been fibreglassed in preparation for tiling and a balustrade to be added. Fibreglass ensures that the roof area is completely waterproof and strong enough to be walked upon. It will last for many, many years ahead.

There is a wide variety of differing quality of materials on the market that can be used for fibreglass roofing. Therefore I believe it is safe to assume that if you have been quoted a cheap price, cheap materials will be used. Quality also applies to the people you appoint to undertake the work so it is well worth you spending a little time to check the credentials and experience of the people you are entrusting your roof to. It is likely to save you a great deal of money in the future. At Proplas we recommend the Scott Bader Crystic Premier roof system which is very high quality and we also use other fibreglass products should the client have...
