High Quality Fibreglass Roofing

There are two main areas of consideration when choosing who to appoint to undertake the waterproofing of your flat roof: The experience (not qualification) of the person or people conducting the work on the actual day of installation. The quality of the materials being used. Certificates of competence that may be presented to you are no indication of experience, and this is far more valuable. Anybody that is willing to pay the various material manufacturing/distribution companies for their “training” courses will be accepted onto the course and given a few hours tuition which will be woefully inadequate. It is therefore imperative that you take some time to establish the experience of the actual person or people that will be conducting...

Alternatives to Rubber Roofing

November 5, 2016 4:55 pm Published by

Rubber flat roofs are incredibly popular in the UK thanks to the ease of installation and low cost. Unfortunately, many DIYers have found that unless they are expertly installed you can see wrinkling, sagging, and leaks very soon after it has been completed. Homeowners are increasingly moving away from rubber roofing for a variety of reasons; some do not like the look and prefer a smoother finish, while others want their roofs to last longer. Fortunately, there are a number of alternatives to rubber flat roofing. Proplas specialise in installing fibreglass roofing. We chose this material for a variety of reasons, for example, it is one of the most long-lasting roofing materials and we can confidently provide a 25 year...

Flat Roofing Materials

Installing a new flat roof or replacing an old one can be costly, so it’s important that you make the right decisions to ensure that your roof’s maintenance, cost, and look is in line with your requirements. Lower maintenance and more long-lasting roofing materials can cost more upfront, but ultimately cost less over their lifetime because they need fewer repairs and replacements. The most popular flat roofing materials are rubber, fibreglass, and felt. They all differ in terms of lifespan, cost, longevity, appearance and flexibility. Rubber Flat Roofing Rubber roofs can usually be installed in a single, complete layer with no joins (depending on the size). These roofs are typically glued onto the decking but can be mechanically fixed and...

GRP flat roof replacement

September 23, 2016 1:16 pm Published by

We recently completed work on a flat roof replacement in Cambridge. The customer told us that they chose Proplas because of our professionalism, expertise, and the fact that we can respond quickly to their needs. Replacing a Felt Roof with GRP The old felt roof was coming to the end of its life – it was showing signs of wear and tear, and only half of it was being used as a terrace. It hadn’t developed a leak yet but it’s likely it would if left in the same state for much longer. As part of the replacement, we stripped the old wooden decking and prepared the surface. We fastened 18mm OSB3 boards to the roof and added pre-formed fibreglass...

Proplas commissioned by the Environment Agency for bespoke roof

Roofing

Proplas was recently commissioned by the Environment Agency to produce a bespoke roof for an outbuilding in Norfolk. They wanted a long term solution to continually failing felt roofs and selected Proplas due to our expertise and high standards in fibreglass roofing.  Due to the size of the roof, 1.2 x 2.5m, we were able to make the roof offsite and transport it to the location to be fitted by the Environment Agency builders.  The felt was regularly failing, in part, due to youths climbing on it.  Whilst the Agency wishes to discourage climbing, Proplas has added a non slip grit to the final topcoat in order to prevent slipping and accidents, should someone choose to stand on it...

Small bay window roof replaced, Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

Front Window Roof

June 2, 2016 3:40 pm Published by

No job is too big or small and we cover all areas of the UK. We have bases in both St Albans in the South of England and in Manchester in the North. Proplas was recently called to replace the roof over a small bay window in the Greater Manchester suburb of Altrincham.  As you can see, the original felt was in a bad state and had definitely come to the end of it’s life span. The job entailed stripping the old felt and boards. The new roof was fitted by Proplas with a slight decline to the far side where rain water will fall into the gutter. As you will agree, the new roof looks far superior to the...

Roofing With Light Panels

May 2016, we have just completed a replacement roof in Winchmore Hill, Enfield, North London. The clients had an old felt roof which was failing and unsightly and decided to replace it with fibreglass as they wanted a long lasting solution. First, we fully stripped the old roof and installed new insulation at the clients request. New OSB3 boards went over the top and we fibreglassed and topcoated using our premier system Scott Bader Premier Crystic Roof. Particular attention was paid to sealing and waterproofing around the existing pipes which protrude from the wall as these entry points can be prone to leaks if not sealed thoroughly and correctly (see photo detail). We are sure you will agree that the new...

Replacement of an old felt roof in North London

Roofing With Light Panels

Here are photos of our latest project, the replacement of a leaking felt roof in Elstree, North London. Photo 1: As you can see from the first photo (below, left) water was pooling on the old felt roof and the water was seeping under the seams and around the roof lights. Photo 2: We stripped off the old roof surface completely exposing the insulation and retaining the existing roof lights. Photo 3: The client required a new layer of insulation which we provided. The new roof will be very slightly higher at the edge nearest the wall and we do this using special furring strips under the boards. This means that water will run off to the gutter rather than...
